A passion to end modern-day slavery

Highlighting the Passion2012 conference in Atlanta from this past week, this is pretty amazing 3 minute video. It's worth every minute to watch:

And now I'm asking myself what it looks like to join this movement on a day to day basis.

Thoughts?

Week in review #27

One week of 2012 down, 51 one to go. The last time I did a week in review post (#16) was a few months ago. That lost time was summarized in a post last week, so things continue on with #27. This one is coming right from a trip to the nation's capital:

Me & Mark Driscoll

Yesterday I was part of the Love Life conference with Mark Driscoll down in Athens, GA. Regardless of the whether you are a Driscoll fan boy or the exact opposite, his messages on love, dating, and marriage were phenomenal. The content is based on a book he has coming out in January, and subsequent speaking tour that Logos is sponsoring. Really powerful stuff, highly recommend checking it out. Based on the current schedule he'll be in Rockford next September. So you have some time to plan ahead. =)

Week in review #11

Just woke up from getting over 9 hours of sleep last night. Can't remember the last time that happened. But based on the past week, the extra sleep was needed:

Me & N.T. Wright

Yesterday I was fortunate to have met N.T. Wright. For those who have never heard of him, he is one of the top Biblical scholars in the world, a prolific author, and great speaker. For me, this interaction was the equivalence of a junior high girl meeting Justin Bieber. Except I didn't scream like one.

When you see a leader like this from afar you wonder what they will be like in person. He was incredibly kind and engaging. We were able to chat for about 10min, talking about when he came to the Theological Lectureship at Wheaton, a little about Logos, and also his current work. Yeah, pretty awesome.

Traveling corner to corner

Heading home to Chicago today after a week in California.  Great week for work, and it's been awesome to have my family along with me for the ride.  We fell in love with San Francisco!  What an amazing city!

This trip started last weekend when I was in Burlington, VT.  But last Sunday morning, I wasn't only coming home from VT, I would be traveling from Burlington, VT all the way to Los Angeles, CA.  My itinerary looked like this:

Spoiled

If you are one who likes to hear teaching about God, the Bible, and life, then you'll agree after seeing the below list that recently I have been incredibly spoiled.  I've been at three different conferences in the last 8 days.  As the phrase goes, it's been like drinking from a fire hose.

Looking forward to Ignite 2009

I'm really looking forward to Ignite this year. For the new-to-New Life or the non-New Life'er, Ignite is New Life's annual one-day training conference for our church. Throughout the day there are various sessions and work-shops helping people to be better prepared for serving in ministry. We mention every Sunday that New Life has 12 locations throughout the Chicagoland area, but there's an amazing spiritual depth that we get to participate in when people from all 12 locations come together for one purpose: how can we together be better for Jesus and our city? Last year's Ignite was the first large event I'd attended for the church. I remember calling Jeannette on the way home to say, "this is the church we need to be a part of." It's a time for us to celebrate, it's a time for us to become better at what we do, and it's a time for us to expand the vision in our hearts for Chicago.

If you can be at Ignite then you need to be at Ignite! Mark down the date!
